I’ve Got a Feeling, a Feeling Deep Inside

August 1, 2012 in Middle East Crisis, Signs and Wonders, TEOTWAWKI

“I’ve Got a Feeling” is a Lennon-McCartney track from the album “Let It Be”…

Some of my brothers and sisters in Christ may consider it an abomination for me to quote a lyric from a Beatles song – as some view the Beatles, their music, and their lyrics as the most anti-Christ, evil form of artistic expression to ever tickle the ears of fallen man.

Mohammed Morsi - "Our Capital Shall Be Jerusalem, Allah Willing"

Mohammed Morsi

I enjoy the music of the Beatles. It is in my view the most colorful and creative rock music ever made. The lyrics to me are mere words – and in some cases clever wordplay – that don’t influence the way that I think or feel.

But it is not my enjoyment of the Beatles that will be the topic of this blog. Instead, I write today because I’ve got a feeling…

I will re-use what is for me a hackneyed phrase: I am no prophet, nor have I ever played one on television. I do not sense that God has gifted me with the prophetic, but has instead blessed me with a keen sensitivity to the Natural and Supernatural around me.

Certainly, I am not one of those heretics that claim they can determine the specific day of the Rapture. However; by being a watchman at the wall, I see the signs that tell me that we are in the season. It has been a long, slow, but deliberate slog along a rough and rocky road, but it sure does seem like we have completed the pacing of the End Times miles that would bring us within earshot of the sound of that glorious trumpet.

Just like some of you, I’ve got a feeling – a feeling deep inside oh yeah – that while we are nearly home, the remaining miles may take us through the stormiest weather that this fallen world has seen up to this point in its history. In the spring and summer of 2010 I wrote an online column called Storm Watch and then Storm Warning. I thought by the autumn of that year we would have reached a period where we would be seeing such hard times that some mislead followers of Christ would be saying that the Great Tribulation was already upon us. Well, that autumn brought great tribulation into my own life, but it seemed like everyone else was doing A-OK.

In August of 2012 the Middle East is perched on a precipice of war that will involve Syria, Iran, possibly Russia and America, and most surely the apple of God’s eye, who is none other than Israel. This war could involve Egypt, Turkey, Jordan, and other nations in that region. On theoretical paper, this war could bring about a desired result for Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. It is Morsi who has said “Our capital shall be Jerusalem, Allah willing.” But, on the paper pages of the Bible, this war could bring about the fulfillment of prophecies written in Isaiah 17:1, Psalm 83, and Ezekiel 38-39. Somewhere along this tumultuous road the fulfillment of 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 could be a strong possibility.

Concurrent with the growing maelstrom in the Middle East are the steadily collapsing economies of America and Europe. Perhaps in anticipation of what some refer to as SHTF (Google it), the U.S. Federal Government may be preparing for civil unrest and Martial Law.

In my view, there is big trouble coming around the bend. Still, some of you may say that I’m a lunatic, a conspiracy theorist, or one of those disenfranchised End Times-loving Christians that can’t find fulfillment in this world and just wants to see TEOTWAWKI (another acronym you can Google) so as to believe that the Rapture is nigh.

Say what you will, and indeed, time will tell. But I’ve got a feeling…

2012 London Olympics – a Mystery To Me

July 30, 2012 in TEOTWAWKI

Who is Jordyn Wieber?

Yes, I must admit that I hadn’t heard of 17 year old Olympic athlete Jordyn Wieber until this morning. After a modicum of research, I’ve learned that America had pinned its collective hope on her as the best chance to win a gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics.

Jordyn Wieber, 2012 London Olympics gymnastics competitor and American Gold Medal hopeful.

Jordyn Wieber

This writer was further edified this morning to learn that Aly Raisman and Gabrielle Douglas are her teammates; they coming away with higher scores than the reigning world champion Wieber in Olympic gymnastics events held on Sunday, July 29, 2012.

It is not the fault of the Olympic athletes that I don’t know who they are. Indeed, they train hard, make considerable sacrifices, and compete at a spectacular level. The training is as much mental as it is physical, and through the years invested it becomes a way of life that returns that investment in precious metal. After the lights have been turned off in the arena of competition, there may be endorsement contracts, television commercials, and all manner of opportunity in a media ever hungry for a fresh young face to cash in on. And, aren’t Americans ever hungry for a fresh young idol to heap their worship upon?

No, it is not the fault of Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman, Gabrielle Douglas, or any of the other athletes competing in the 2012 London Olympics that they are a mystery to me. Simply stated, I don’t follow the Olympics and never have.

Certainly, I know of Michael Phelps, Mark Spitz, Nadia Comaneci, and Mary Lou Retton. The aforementioned have transcended the world of athletic competition; rising into the universe of pop culture icons. There are other Olympians that have made a similar false ascension, joining the ranks of NFL, NBA, NHL, and Major League Baseball players who stand at the apex of Mount Superstar. Ah, but the financial security can’t be beat, right?

Call me a curmudgeon, but I am too busy this summer watching the imperiled U.S. and European economies and the tumultuous events in the Middle East. I don’t have the free time or free mind to follow the Olympics.

But I do have to wonder – how many more Olympiads will there be?

Before Life Was a Downloadable App

July 24, 2012 in TEOTWAWKI

I remember a time when the word “app” wasn’t yet a word…

…but instead an abbreviation for the word “application.” In those halcyon days of yesteryear, one had to go to a geographic location before it appeared on Google Earth to fill out said app or application with an ink transfer device; otherwise known as a pen. Do you remember ink pens? And, strangely enough, that app or application was not digital but instead printed on paper. Oftentimes, the paper that the app was printed on wasn’t 100 percent recycled!

In 1969, pop duo Zager & Evans scored a hit with a song called "In The Year 2525" In the year 2012, so much of what they sang of has seemingly come to pass...

Zager & Evans sing “In The Year 2525.”

I’m not referencing a time before the automobile, the internet, or even before the laptop computer! This time was not lived by an ancient civilization similar to the Mayans and their infamous calender that ends on December 21, 2012. Indeed, this time I write of was a mere 8 to 10 years ago!

If you are reading this blog, you likely recall that time in world history circa 2002-2005. The twenty-first century was new and despite the scars of the traumatic events of September 11, 2001 – Americans seemed to enjoy a palpable optimism, even if it may have in retrospect been unfounded. Most Americans did not watch at the wall and see what was coming over the proverbial hill. Too many Americans have become culturally, morally, and spiritually sedentary – allowing prosperity and technology to weed it’s own amber waves of grain. Instead, Americans could have been dutiful farmers – weeding and watering and applying due diligence, bearing in mind that freedom is God-given but not free.

Many would say that life in 2012 America and the world is easier than any time in history. Sheeple can store their entire life in a digital box only 4.5″ high and 0.37″ deep. Contained therein is a telephone, social media, music, video, and nearly anything one can dream of. When we are fenced-in together in a herd, we don’t even have to talk to each other. We just stare dazed at our life-box and scroll through icons and tap the keypad while having ear buds placed into our ears, so as to hear only what or who we desire. Anything that we think, do, or communicate can be facilitated through the life-box.

In 1969, pop duo Zager & Evans scored a hit with a song called In The Year 2525. In the year 2012, so much of what they sang of has seemingly come to pass…

…Technology needs the lifeblood of a stable economy to survive; even when that economy is being maintained by Advanced Life Support. As we watch the slow but persistent collapse of the U.S. and European economies today, we should experience A-Fib in our hearts and a queasiness in our souls over the obsession with placing the bulk of our existences into the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry flavored life-boxes.

Super Villain James Holmes Brings Terror To Batman Showing

July 20, 2012 in TEOTWAWKI

James Holmes was no joker and planned shooting in advance

The smiling photograph of James Holmes is seemingly not the depiction of a calculating mass-murderer. The 24 year old entered the Century 16 Movie Theaters in Aurora, Colorado during a midnight showing of the new Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises” and opened fire, killing 12 people and injuring a reported 59 more.

James Holmes killed at least 12 and injured nearly 50 more in a shooting attack at the Century 16 Movie Theaters in Aurora, Colorado, on July 20th, 2012.

James Holmes

The perpetrator – who was clad in all black clothing and wore body armor — acted solo and used an AR-15 assault rifle, a shotgun and a .40-caliber handgun in the attack. Another handgun was also found in his car, which was parked outside of the theater. He is in custody, and Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said “We are confident that he acted alone,” and added that “many, many” rounds were fired.

Earlier, police said Holmes’ apartment was booby trapped, leading authorities to evacuate five surrounding buildings. Chief Oates indicated that bomb technicians are determining how to disarm flammable and/or explosive material in the third-floor apartment. He said police could be there some time, adding “We have an active and difficult scene there.”

KUSA-TV in Denver reports that Holmes kicked down an emergency door at the theater, threw in some manner of smoke bomb and began shooting as moviegoers started to run for their lives. The bodies of the 10 victims who died at the theater remained at the scene early Friday while police continued to investigate, according to the Denver Post. Sources told Fox News that at least 3 military service members from Buckley Air Force Base, located in Aurora, were among those injured.

What drove James Egan Holmes to plot and then carry out this act of horror with a total lack of empathy? Why would he rig his apartment with explosives prior to committing this diabolical crime that would result in at least 12 deaths and injure four times as many?

What will the ripple-effects of this monstrous act of evil be: Will you still feel safe going out to the movies?

End the Drought, Let it Rain

July 17, 2012 in TEOTWAWKI

The drought of 2012 is leaving America dry and thirsty

In its monthly drought report, the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., announced that 55 percent of the U.S. was in a moderate to extreme drought at the end of June. The bone-dry conditions expanded last month in the West, the Great Plains and the Midwest, fueled by the 14th warmest and 10th driest June on record, the report said. CBS News reported on July 16th that the drought conditions now covered 80 percent of the nation – the widest area since 1956.

Desert sand, skull, symbolic of 2012 heat and drought

Please Lord, let it rain!

Here in upstate New York the water level in streams and ponds is below the normal summertime levels; and it’s only mid-July. The old Erie Canal – you know, that erstwhile “Clinton’s Ditch” that some wayfarers walked along – appears to be close to drying up in some spots in Madison County. I’ve watched Largemouth Bass swimming in water that barely covered their backs with no deeper holes to find relief in. Granted, the canal for years has not been filled to its original depth when packet boats were pulled by mule teams trotting the towpath. Still, despite the lower depth in the old ditch, the water in many spots is dangerously low for big fish to survive in.

We’ve experienced drought before in America, and it certainly the hot dry summer of 2012 is not on par with the Dust Bowl conditions of the “Dirty Thirties” – but nevertheless this is a potentially grave situation that we are encumbered with. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on July 16th that more than 20 percent of the U.S. corn crop is in poor condition due to what is considered to be the worst drought in nearly a quarter century. As well, peanut crops are being adversely affected by the record heat and dry conditions and it doesn’t require a rocket scientist to extrapolate that all grocery prices will continue to rise in an already over-stressed economy.

The summer of 2012 in America and around the world is analogous to a tinderbox of dry kindling wood situated too close to a can of of nearly $4.00 a gallon gasoline. Combined with the wood and gas is oppressive heat and poor air quality.

We are parched, distressed, and need rain to fall in the natural and pour in as living water from the supernatural. Indeed, we are like the fish that have barely enough water to cover our backs.
